A sarcoma (from the Greek 'sarx' meaning "flesh") is a cancer of the connective tissue (bone, cartilage, fat) resulting in mesoderm proliferation. This is in contrast to carcinomas, which are of epithelial origin (breast, colon, pancreas, and others).
