Paean (as in European) is a term used to describe a type of triumphal or grateful song, usually choral though sometimes individual. It comes from the ancient Greek παιάν (paian) "song of triumph, any solemn song or chant" and it was also used as the name for the physician of the Greek gods and as an epithet of Apollo.
