Nickel titanium is the common name for alloys of nickel and titanium in which the two elements are present in equal (or nearly equal) amounts. Thus rather than being simply a mixture of the two, the name really refers to the equiatomic compound, NiTi. Nitinol alloys exhibit two closely related and very unique properties shape memory, and superelasticity (also called pseudoelasticity). Shape memory refers to the ability of Nitinol to undergo deformation at one temperature, then recover its origin… (More on Nitinol) |
