Nirukta ("explanation, etymological interpretation") is one of the six [[Vedanga|]] disciplines of Hinduism, treating etymology, particularly of obscure words, especially those occurring in the Vedas. The discipline is traditionally attributed to [[Yaska|]], an ancient Sanskrit grammarian.
