A valediction (derivation from Latin vale dicere ("to say farewell"))'s an expression used to say farewell, especially at the end of a letter, or the act of saying parting words- whether brief, or extensive. The word valediction's commonly used in English to refer to a complimentary closing - a courteous, formulaic phrase preceding the writer's signature that expresses the writer's good will toward the recipient.
