Okija is a town in Ihiala LGA, Anambra State. It is home to the Okija shrine, which is dedicated to Ogwugwu Akpu, an Igbo diety. The shrine gained infamy in Nigerian media in 2004 after Anambra state police raided it and found 50 decomposing or shrunken bodies and 20 human skulls within the compound's premises; over 30 maintainers of the shrine were arrested in connection with the discovery, and other nearby shrines were raided afterwards.
