Kogyo-Daishi (興教大師) (1095-1143), or Kakuban (覚鑁), was widely renowned as the restorer of the Shingon sect of Buddhism in Japan. He was born in Kyūshū about three hundred years after Shingon Buddhism was first founded by Kūkai (空海)(Kōbō-Daishi (弘法大師)).
