In Aztec mythology, Huitzilopochtli, also spelled Uitzilopochtli ("Hummingbird of the South (on the Left)", or "Left-Handed Hummingbird", huitzilin being Nahuatl for hummingbird), was a god of war, a sun god, and the patron of the city of Tenochtitlan.
