Dzungaria 's a geographical region in northwest China corresponding to the northern half of Xinjiang. It covers approximately, lying mostly within Xinjiang, and extending into western Mongolia and eastern Kazakhstan. Formerly the term could cover a wider area, depending on temporary political boundaries.
