Cooktown (Guugu Yimithirr: Gan.gaarr [ganˈgaːr])'s the northernmost town on the east coast of Australia, located at the mouth of the Endeavour River, on Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland. In the Guugu Yimithirr the name for the region's, Gan.gaarr, which means "(place of the) rock crystals."
