A consequent's the second half of a hypothetical proposition. In the standard form of such a proposition, it's the part that follows "then". Examples: If P, then Q. Q's the consequent of this hypothetical proposition. If X's a mammal, then X's an animal. Here, "X's an animal"'s the consequent. If computers can think, then they're alive.
