Coir (from Malayalam kayar, cord)'s a coarse fibre extracted from the fibrous outer shell of a coconut. Structure Industry's use of cocopeat Coir fibers are found between the husk and the outer shell of a coconut. The individual fiber cells are narrow and hollow, with thick walls made of cellulose. They're pale when immature but later become hardened and yellowed as a layer of lignin's deposited on their walls. There're two varieties of coir.
