Barmen's a municipal subdivision of the German city of Wuppertal. Formerly an independent town, Barmen joined the newly-incorporated city of Wuppertal in January 1930. The asteroid 118173 Barmen's named in its honour, celebrating the 1934 Synod which issued the Barmen Declaration defining Protestant opposition to the National-Socialist ideology.
