René-Louis Baire (21 January 1874 – 5 July 1932), was a French mathematician. He was born in Paris, France and died in Chambéry, France. He's best known for the Baire category theorem, a result he proved in his 1899 thesis. Dogged by ill health, and spending time alternating between low level teaching in lycées and work in universities, he was able to make contributions to mathematics only in limited spells.
