Artaserse's the name of a number of Italian operas, all based on a text by Metastasio. Artaserse's the Italian form of the name of a Persian king, Artaxerxes. There're over 40 known settings of Metastasio's text. The libretto was first set by Vinci in 1730 for Rome.
